The Maritime Master Plan offers an opportunity for the Dutch maritime sector to take a big step in sustainability and digitalization. The plan commits to a digital platform for collaboration and data sharing, the Joint Maritime Digital Platform (JMDP). This is where the software tool Datastorms comes in. Datastorms, developed by Martijn van Loenen and our 15-member Datastorms team, can be an important
Contribute to the development of the JMDP by enabling optimal data sharing and collaboration.
In this article, we look at the capabilities of Datastorms for the JMDP and what advantages the software experts of this data tooling have with their maritime knowledge for the development and implementation of this important platform.

Datastorms and the power behind the tool
Datastorms is an advanced software platform co-designed for the maritime
sector. It focuses on streamlining and structuring data. The platform supports
maximizing information and data collaboration. It consists of innovative
building blocks that bring structure and unity to data. Thanks to the architecture of the platform
users can quickly achieve results, such as a proof of concept, and the tool is
excellent for managing large amounts of data.
Martijn van Loenen, the driving force behind Van Loenen Consultancy and Datastorms,
has developed expertise in information management within the maritime
sector but also beyond. As a former P6 project manager within the Integral
Collaborative Program, he has gained in-depth knowledge and experience that he now uses as a
accelerator used in Datastorms. Supplement this with the expertise of the Datastorms team in
both technical and operational aspects and you are assured that this is the basis to
guide and optimize complex maritime projects.
Technical capabilities of Datastorms
Datastorms offers a range of technical capabilities that support the development of the JMDP. We list five of them:

These features make Datastorms a powerful tool for realizing a maritime platform where knowledge and data come together.
Why maritime expertise is crucial in JMDP software development
Sector knowledge is indispensable when implementing JMDP software. Software experts with field knowledge understand the specific needs and challenges within this sector and can seamlessly integrate software into existing systems. This prevents costly mistakes and ensures more efficient and effective use of the software. A good understanding of both technical and operational aspects is essential for
successful software implementations.

Broad knowledge, including outside the industry
That the Datastorms team does not turn their hand to complex projects proves, for example, the Amsterdam road tunnels project that they were privileged to supervise.
By developing a shared library using the principles of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), they delivered a structured and consistent approach.
This resulted in:
- Improved data quality
Standard models and components minimize errors and ensure consistent operation.
- Increased efficiency
Reuse of documented knowledge saves time and resources.
- Continuous improvement
Feedback from the field is continuously collected and incorporated into the library, which allows it to be continuously optimized.
This project shows that sharing data is the key to successful projects. By sharing knowledge and working together, we can increase quality, optimize efficiency and drive continuous improvement.
Getting further together: sharing knowledge is multiplying
As information professionals, we know that sharing knowledge means multiplying knowledge. This is the only way to create a connected JMDP where knowledge comes together. We ensure that the knowledge comes together in a streamlined way and an integrated result is realized. Together you get further, you help each other excel.
Van Loenen Consultancy & Datastorms: for the entire maritime sector
Van Loenen Consultancy has years of experience in the maritime sector, working at Oceanco and Damen, among others. With our team of information professionals, we bring extensive experience and knowledge to the maritime sector. The team also has process and systems engineers who are able to make all knowledge in the organization centrally available, making processes more efficient and cost-effective and maximizing support for innovations. We understand the unique challenges and requirements of this beautiful sector and can therefore offer customized solutions that go beyond generic software packages.
